Marsha Weigum was pregnant with her sixth child when the doctor delivered shocking news.
The doctor told Marsha there was a 99 percent chance her baby would have Down syndrome, and pushed her to abort her baby.
After listening to the doctor, Marsha made a choice that nobody ever expected.
Almost coerced into an abortion
When Marsha received the news her baby would have Down syndrome – she asked a simple question “What’s next for prenatal care?”
But she never expected her doctor’s response.
Instead of encouraging Marsha and providing reassurance – the doctor pushed abortion.
Marsha claimed the doctor told her she could terminate the baby if she wanted to – and listed of a host of reasons why having a child with Down syndrome would be difficult, the Post Independent reported.
The love and determination of a mother
Marsha refused to listen to the scare tactics her doctor was pushing.
Instead, she was more determined than ever to have her baby and give her child a chance at life.
She stopped listening to her doctor, and fought hard to find resources and care to help her manage her pregnancy.
And now – Marsha wants to use her story to ensure no other mother would experience the same dismissiveness she did.
Marsha declared “I want the next woman who’s gonna come through here to have something they can refer to … It shouldn’t be just this,” reported Live Action News.
She continued “People say, ‘You can just go kill it because it could be bothersome to your life and to your family.’ That’s the kind of madness I was feeling. How do I do something about this? How do I change this? This is where I live.”
A non-profit to help pregnant moms
Martha was determined to be a voice for those who couldn’t speak for themselves – and found comfort in Proverbs 31:8-9 which says “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
Her desire to help others led her to start a non-profit called Our Voice for the Voiceless which helps parents of children with Down syndrome find resources and hope the medical community refuses to provide.
Marsha gave birth to a beautiful baby named Nathan – and she never regretted her decision to choose life.
So many doctors pressure pregnant moms to abort their babies simply because the baby will have an intellectual disability.
Many pregnant moms are scared – or trained to listen to their doctors so they go ahead with the abortion.
Thankfully, Marsha had the courage to fight for the life of her son – and now she will help other women do the same.
Pro-Life Press will keep you up-to-date on any developments to this ongoing story.
