Bloomberg Is Funding Idaho’s Abortion Push but the Biggest Check Hides Its Real Donors

Michael Bloomberg dumped more than a million dollars into Kansas to defeat a pro-life amendment in 2022.

The New York billionaire has opened his checkbook for Idaho, a state that protects nearly every preborn child.

His check wasn't even the biggest, and the money behind the largest one is hidden from Idaho voters.

Out-of-State Billionaires Poured Nearly $2 Million Into Idaho Prop 1 in One Week

Idahoans will vote on Proposition 1 on November 3.

The pro-abortion group behind it, Idahoans United for Women and Families, pulled in nearly $2 million in a single week.

Most of it didn't come from Idaho.

Government That Works PAC, based in Washington, D.C., wrote the biggest check – $650,000.

Bloomberg sent $250,000.

Cargill heiress Gwendolyn Sontheim Meyer sent another $250,000, after giving $1 million to push Ohio's abortion amendment, according to Idaho GOP Chairwoman Dorothy Moon.

Jill Grossman, who has given to Planned Parenthood, matched them at $250,000.

A California trust chipped in $100,000, and Illinois billionaire Blair Hull added $50,000.

Bloomberg owns homes in New York City, the Hamptons, Florida, Bermuda, and London – and none of them are in Idaho.

Moon says he has given $50 million to groups like Planned Parenthood.

He sent $1.25 million to Missouri in August to defeat a pro-life amendment on that state's November ballot too.

A 1997 lawsuit by former employee Sekiko Sakai Garrison alleged Bloomberg told her to "kill it" when she announced her pregnancy.

Bloomberg denied it.

That's the man writing checks to decide how Idaho protects its babies.

"Idaho voters don't need Michael Bloomberg or a D.C. PAC hand-picking our laws," said Dee Sarton, spokesperson for the Stop Prop 1 campaign.

The Soros and Wyss Dark Money Trail Behind Government That Works PAC

Federal Election Commission records show Government That Works PAC raised $23.4 million between August 2025 and August 2026.

Only about $13,000 of that came from itemized individual donors.

The rest flowed in through channels that keep the real donors hidden.

Live Action News reports the PAC has ties to George Soros and Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss.

Wyss isn't even an American citizen.

Nebraska has already taken him to court over dark money funding of abortion initiatives.

What a Yes Vote on Idaho Prop 1 Would Do to Preborn Children

Idaho law protects preborn children from abortion, with exceptions to save the mother's life and for reported rape or incest in the first trimester.

Prop 1 would wipe that out and write a "right" to abortion into law.

Megan Wold, an Idaho attorney who clerked for Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, says it allows abortion "for any reason (or no reason)" into the eighth month of pregnancy.

After viability, abortion stays legal in any case labeled a "medical emergency."

The measure also shields those providers from professional discipline and civil and criminal liability.

"The foremost thing is to know this: it [Prop. 1] is not what it says," said Bishop Peter Christensen of Boise.

"Prop 1 is radically pro-abortion and would legalize late-term abortions into the third trimester," he added.

Idaho Early Voting Opens October 13 While Coastal Money Pours In

Idaho counties have started mailing absentee ballots.

That's why the checks arrived when they did.

Ohio in 2023 and Missouri in 2024 both passed abortion amendments after out-of-state money flooded in, bought the TV ads, and called the whole thing grassroots.

Sarton put it plainly – when New York billionaires and D.C. committees write six-figure checks, "that's not grassroots."

Idaho gets to stop it before it starts.

The real grassroots in Idaho looks like Brandi Swindell.

She founded Stanton Healthcare, an Idaho-based network of life-affirming medical clinics that gives women facing unexpected pregnancies medical care and practical support.

"The answer to women's needs has never been abortion," Swindell said.

"The answer is compassionate care, practical support, and hope."

"We cannot go backward to a system that treats abortion as the solution to women's challenges," she said.

Her Idaho clinics run on donations, not six-figure checks from D.C.

Bloomberg's money buys airtime in Boise.

Stanton's donors buy a mother the help she needs to bring her baby home.

Idaho families get the final word on November 3.
