CNN caught in huge lie about this state’s Pro-Life law and increased infant mortality

It’s become well-known that the media lies.

And usually they do their best to at least try and hide the lies from unsuspecting viewers.

But now CNN has been caught in a huge lie about this state’s Pro-Life law and increased infant mortality.

CNN recently ran a story citing a large increase in the infant-mortality rate in Texas and were quick to blame the Texas Heartbeat Act.

Lying by omission is still lying

CNN obtained data from the Texas Department of State Health Services through a public records request.

This data showed that in 2022 the number of infant deaths in Texas supposedly increased by 11.5 percent.

And the CNN reporter was quick to blame the Texas Heartbeat Act, which took effect in September 2021.

The reporter, of course, made no effort at all to even discuss other possible reasons for the purported increase in the infant mortality rate.

This despite the fact many other causes exist, including an increased number of illegal immigrants and major disruptions to prenatal care caused by the government’s response to COVID.

The CNN reporter was only interested in blaming Pro-Life legislation.

But in addition, the reporter used some statistical sleight of hand to make her report seem more shocking.

While infant deaths did increase in Texas in 2022, so did the total number of births.

A Charlotte Lozier Institute study from November 2002 as well as a recent article in the Journal of the American Medical Association both found the Texas Heartbeat Act resulted in an increase in the birth rate in Texas in 2022.

This means the infant-mortality rate in Texas increased by just 6.6 percent in 2022 and while that may be a cause for some concern, it’s not as concerning an increase as CNN reported.

Also, the infant mortality rate in Texas in 2022 was well within recent historical norms.

In fact, according to the report, the infant-mortality rate in Texas was actually lower in 2022 than in any year from 2007 to 2017.

Of course, the CNN article conveniently left out those facts – just another lie by omission for the cable news giant.

Covering the lie

Despite all of this, a number of other news outlets were quick to cover CNN’s lie.

Among them were AxiosStraight Arrow News, and Truthout, who were all quick to cover the CNN charges against the Texas Heartbeat Act.

Far be it from them to do any type of investigating on their own.

They might have found one plausible reason why the Texas infant-mortality rate might have increased in 2022.

In Texas the leading cause of infant mortality is congenital conditions.

The Texas Heartbeat Act is not causing an increase in congenital conditions but it is preventing unborn children from being aborted due to medical conditions.

Many such children were in fact dying before the Texas Heartbeat Act, but since they were being aborted, they were not counted as infant deaths.

This CNN article blaming the increase in infant mortality on Pro-Life legislation is just the media’s latest attempt to try and denigrate and demonize Pro-Life laws.
