House Republicans ignore their base again and cut this pro-life section out of new funding bill

The 2024 elections are coming up fast and life is going to be a major issue.

But too many Republicans simply don’t understand how vital this issue is to their own base.

That’s why House Republicans just ignored their base again and cut this pro-life section out of a new funding bill.

House Republicans just noticeably cut language limiting access to the deadly chemical abortion pill mifepristone in their newly released agricultural funding bill.

They never learn

The pro-abortion move comes as intraparty division on the life issue threatens their slim hold on the House.

And if the GOP continues their pro-abortion actions, it could very well doom the Trump campaign and GOP hopes of taking back the U.S. Senate.

The most recent pro-abortion move came as the powerful GOP majority House Appropriations Committee unveiled the legislation last week.

It is part of an aggressive schedule to try and pass all 12 of the annual funding bills before Congress takes their annual August recess.

And in order to try and accomplish this goal, it seems Republican leaders are more than happy to destroy their own base.

Because notably missing from the agriculture funding bill is a provision Republicans included in their fiscal 2024 agricultural funding plan that would nullify a Biden administration rule allowing mifepristone to be sold in retail pharmacies and through the mail.

The absence of this pro-life provision comes after GOP leaders struggled to pass the previous bill amid opposition from moderates in their party.

And it comes even as abortion is still a top issue for many voters just 5 months out from the critical November elections.

A huge funding bill without pro-life language

The bill, which funds both the Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), includes more than $25 billion in total funding for fiscal year 2025.

In a statement, Congressman Andy Harris (R-MD), chair of the subcommittee that crafted the plan, promoted the newly unveiled plan as one that “supports our rural communities, strengthens our food supply, continues critical investments in agriculture research and rural broadband, and the FDA to assure the safety of drugs and devices.”

But by removing the limits on the deadly chemical abortion pill, the House GOP proved they don’t really care about the safety of women.

Instead, Harris and the House GOP is more interested in spending taxpayer dollars on social welfare programs.

“This year, the Agriculture Appropriations bill also focuses on elevating the nutrition needs of SNAP participants by giving states a chance to participate in a pilot program that restricts unhealthy food,” Harris said, referring to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Despite the GOP sellout on life, Democrats still oppose the spending bill.

“This bill makes it more difficult for hardworking people to buy homes in rural areas and cuts water and waste grants that help households and businesses access clean drinking water,” Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), the top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, said in a statement.

“At a time when families around the world are struggling to feed their children, this bill would cut Food for Peace to the lowest level since 2002 and implement the misguided ‘SNAP Choice’ pilot program.”

Once again, Republicans refuse to accept the political reality that no matter how much they kneel in front of the radical Left, they can never make them happy.

And on the issue of life, this means more deaths at the hands of the GOP.
