Maura Healey’s Own Words Reveal Every Newborn in Massachusetts Gets a Government Assessment

Maura Healey already signed a law letting abortionists kill babies old enough to survive outside the womb.

Now the same governor wants a state health worker inside every Massachusetts nursery within days of birth.

Healey's own words suggest new parents in Massachusetts will not get a real choice about that visit.

Every Newborn Home Visit in Massachusetts Comes Whether Parents Ask or Not

Healey rolled out the plan on Boston Public Radio, and she did not sound like she was describing an option.

"Everybody in the state, when you have a baby, you're going to have a home visit," Healey said.

She said it would happen "within days, weeks" of birth, so a state-appointed provider can "make an assessment."

State officials call the Welcome Family program voluntary and free, and it currently reaches about 3,000 of Massachusetts' 68,000 annual births.

Healey wants $2 million more to reach every single one of them.

A nurse would enter the home, check the baby, and screen the parents for mental health, substance use, and home safety.

Nurses would call back two to three weeks later to check whether the family used the resources they were handed.

Massachusetts Republican Party chair Amy Carnevale called it exactly what it looks like.

"An example of government overreach," Carnevale said, noting doctors already screen mothers for postpartum depression without a state worker in the house.

South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace did not bother being polite about it.

"The government DOES NOT OWN your baby," Mace posted, telling readers to "re-read 1984."

Montana Sen. Tim Sheehy summed up his own reaction in two words: "Lunatic libs."

The Same Governor Already Legalized Abortion Up to Birth in Massachusetts

Healey signed H.5595 on Aug. 10, a law that erased Massachusetts' remaining limits on late-term abortion.

Healey is one of the most aggressively pro-abortion governors in the country.

National Right to Life president Carol Tobias said Healey and the legislature "have erased the final protections for unborn children who can feel pain and who could survive outside the womb."

"At the very stage when premature babies are receiving lifesaving care in neonatal intensive care units, Massachusetts will permit abortionists to end the lives of children of the same age – and even older," Tobias said. "That is not compassion, and it is not health care."

Massachusetts Citizens for Life president Myrna Maloney Flynn said the law isn't about protecting doctors and patients.

"It is about abortionists normalizing the deaths of fully developed infants and pressuring vulnerable women to permit their unborn children to die in heinous acts of violence," Flynn said.

"These abortions represent among the most severe human rights abuses permitted in only a few places around the world, including China and North Korea," she said.

Healey's DCF Already Took a Christian Family's Daughter Over Gender Transition

Joseph and Arlene Kutzko have spent nearly two years fighting Healey's Department of Children and Families to get their daughter back.

The state took 15-year-old Sophie in 2024 after her public school began gender-identity counseling behind her Catholic parents' backs.

The Kutzkos would not call their daughter a boy or use male pronouns for her.

Family attorney Vernadette Broyles said there are no standing abuse charges against the Kutzkos in any court, criminal or juvenile.

"It's very dishonest, because there are no standing charges against them," Broyles said of Healey's public defense of the removal.

Broyles said Joseph Kutzko, a scientist, has "science-based objections to the idea of ever telling a child that you can change sex," along with faith-based objections rooted in his Catholic beliefs.

Joseph Kutzko put it in his own words.

"The Northborough-Southborough public schools and their counseling practices exposed our daughter to teachings on LGBTQ [ideology] and topics that conflict with our Catholic beliefs about human dignity, creation as male and female in Catholic teaching," he said.

The Kutzkos have not been allowed to see their daughter since January 2025.

Their next hearing is Oct. 29.

But the Kutzkos are no longer fighting Healey's government alone.

The U.S. Department of Education's Student Privacy Policy Office opened its own investigation into the school district on Sept. 18.

Federal investigators are examining whether the district violated federal student privacy law.

"Parents have a right to know what is happening with their children at school, particularly when it concerns deeply personal matters involving their health and well-being," said SPPO director Frank Miller.

Analysis

Look at the pattern here, because Healey herself keeps drawing the line for you.

This is a governor who signed away the last legal protections for a baby that can feel pain and survive outside the womb.

This is a governor who is still fighting to keep a Catholic family separated from their own daughter over a pronoun.

And this is the governor asking Massachusetts parents to trust a state-sent stranger with an "assessment" of their home in the first days after birth.

Carnevale is right that the resources already exist without another government worker in the nursery.

Mace is right that a family's home is not the government's to inspect on a schedule.

The people fighting Healey in this story are not radicals.

They are Catholic parents defending their daughter, pro-life leaders defending unborn children, federal investigators enforcing parental rights, and Massachusetts Republicans defending your own front door.

Healey keeps telling everybody exactly what she believes government is for.

Massachusetts parents should believe her, and they should be glad Washington is finally paying attention.
