The number of childless people has been quietly growing for some time.
While the Biden administration may be hoping that the influx of immigrants might take care of the worker shortage, the sad question remains, why do so many people elect to be childless?
Economic pressures certainly are a concern for many people. There is uncertainty about jobs, rising housing costs and many young people are saddled with tremendous student debt.
This has not been the first time that our country has faced economic hardship.
People of childbearing age are not very optimistic about America’s future.
The fertility rate in 2023 has hit a historic low in the U.S.
There were fewer than 3.6 million children born after we emerged from COVID.
This goes along with a Pew Research poll that shows nearly half of the people of 18-49 have no plans to have kids, which is a huge jump from 37% in 2018.
The major reason why? They ‘don’t want to’ was cited by 57% of the people polled.
Even getting paid to have kids was not enough to get many people interested according to the Pew study.
Many of the people who are 18-49 were raised by two parent income homes, and they were not happy about it.
Motherhood is not seen as a viable career path for many women who think the only way to live is for both partners to work.
While Kamala Harris is pushing for government-funded day care and tax credits, this doesn’t make people want to have more kids according to the Pew Study.
While some would argue that the low fertility rate is a direct result of liberal abortion policies and widely available contraceptives, this change in fertility points to a bigger spiritual crisis in the country.
Parenthood isn’t celebrated. The 18–49-year-olds are shaped by social media. People celebrate trips or new cars, but very few people celebrate children.
Kids are not being seen as a blessing anymore but more as a burden.
Men have figured out that over 80% of divorces are instigated by women. Not only is it a heartbreaking event, but there is also a very high likelihood that this will result in the loss of a father’s involvement with his kids.
Too many family courts see the only role of the man in a divorce is a source of child support payments and women get full custody 90% of the time.
Men are not being celebrated as fathers.
As a result, many young men do not see any advantage to having kids. They are not honored for their role as a father, and they only see economic liability if the woman decides to divorce.
The bottom line is that apart from a major spiritual change, the population of the United States will continue to drop, and this will be a growing problem for the future.
