Ohio’s deadly abortion amendment would allow the unthinkable

The abortion lobby targeted Ohio as their crown jewel – and they’ve almost succeeded.

While Pro-Lifers tried to slow down the assault on life, a radical abortion amendment will be on the ballot this November.

And if this deadly abortion amendment succeeds – it would allow the most radical and unthinkable pro-abortion “rights” Ohio has ever seen.

The “right” to unlimited abortion

If Ohio Issue 1 passes on election day – Ohioans will essentially have the “right” to unlimited abortion.

Issue 1 would amend the constitution to say every individual has a right to make and carry out one’s own reproductive decisions on contraception, fertility, treatment, continuing one’s own pregnancy, miscarriage care, and abortion.

The amendment also says “The State shall not directly or indirectly burden, penalize, prohibit, interfere with, or discriminate against either.”

Essentially – Ohioans can kill their babies whenever they want – without being penalized or stopped.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost sound the alarm, and warned Ohioans about the extreme nature of this constitutional amendment.

The devil is in the details

In a legal analysis, Yost warned previous laws protecting the right to life would become invalidated.

“Some of Ohio’s laws may be defensible, but the Heartbeat Act would not exist if Issue 1 passes,” Yost wrote.

“Ohio would no longer have the ability to limit abortions at any time before a fetus is viable. Viability is generally thought to be around 21 or 22 weeks. Passage of Issue 1 would invalidate the Heartbeat Act, which restricts abortions (with health and other exceptions) after a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is usually at about six weeks. No other pre-viability limit would be allowed,” continued Yost.

But it gets even worse.

“Ohio currently bars doctors from performing abortions when they know that the abortion is motivated by a diagnosis of Down syndrome,” said Yost.

He continued “If Issue 1 passes, that law would be invalidated, along with any other laws aimed at preventing discriminatory motives, such as abortions performed based on the sex or disability of the fetus.”

Decades of work by Pro-Lifers to advance the cause for life would be completely erased if Issue 1 amends the Ohio Constitution.

Further than Roe

But Pro-Lifers have not given up the fight just yet.

Though the abortion lobby continues to flood Ohio with blood money from pro-aborts all around the country, Pro-Lifers are working tirelessly to defeat this wicked constitutional amendment.

Some Ohioans may think by voting “yes” on Issue 1 it reverses Roe v. Wade – but the truth is Issue 1 goes much further than Roe ever did.

March for Life president Jeanne Mancini said “So many Ohioans think that if Issue 1 successfully passes that it will return Ohio to where the abortion and pro-life limitations were prior to Roe being overturned.”

She continued “That’s not true. This will go so much farther than Roe. In fact, overnight, Ohio, which has been a traditionally a very pro-life state, will become one of the most pro-abortion states in the country, if not the most pro-abortion state.”
