Spineless Republican politicians prove once again they are willing to compromise on life.
Republicans in Nebraska had a chance to save countless unborn lives – but they blew it thanks to one sellout Senator.
And one lone RINO Republican sold out Pro-Lifers by using his power to kill an important life-saving bill.
A golden opportunity for life destroyed
Nebraska was gearing up to pass a bill that banned abortion after the first detection of a fetal heartbeat, generally at about six weeks.
Doctors who tried to abort babies anyway would lose their medical license.
Republican State Senator Merv Riepe who claims to be Pro-Life supported the bill – he even cosponsored it.
But then when it came time to actually take the vote – he caved.
At first, he tried to weaken the bill by introducing an amendment that would extend the 6-week mark to 12 weeks and add an exception that included “fetal abnormalities incompatible with life.”
Of course – had his amendment passed – more babies would have been slaughtered.
But Riepe’s amendment failed – as Republicans held the line for life in Nebraska and refused to let it slide.
The Associated Press reported Riepe claimed, “We must embrace the future of reproductive rights” – leading him to use a procedural move to abstain from voting, which stopped the Pro-Life bill from gaining the 33 votes it needed to pass.
Nebraska Governor Pillen called out Riepe and tweeted out a press release where he wrote, “I am a staunch defender of Life and supporter of the Nebraska Heartbeat Act. I am profoundly disappointed in the cloture vote today. It is unacceptable for senators to be present not voting on such a momentous vote. I call on Senator Merv Riepe to make a motion to reconsider and stand by the commitments to Life he has made in the past.”
Countless RINOs assault life
Merv Riepe isn’t the only politician who sold out his base when it comes time to vote to protect unborn babies.
South Carolina’s pro-abortion Congresswoman Nancy Mace continues to embarrass herself by siding with the pro-abort crowd instead of her Pro-Life constituents who actually elected her to office.
While Mace still claims to be “Pro-Life” her recent comments reveal her true colors.
Mace claims restricting abortion is “extreme” and said during a Fox News Sunday interview “We need to find a middle ground on this issue.”
Of course – there’s no middle ground when it comes to protecting unborn babies from cruel abortionists.
Either one stands for life, boldly and without apology, or they don’t.
It’s that simple.
And then there’s Senator Tom Davis from South Carolina who voted against banning abortions in South Carolina claiming his daughters influenced his decision.
He told WTOC his daughters asked if he was going to let the Pro-Life bill become law in South Carolina to which he replied, “No I’m not because I do not think it is an equitable balancing of those two competing rights to say that a woman loses all control over her body at the moment the sperm fertilizes the egg.”
These sellouts think by compromising on life they’ll win more votes.
But history shows moderate politicians (especially those from conservative states) who don’t have the guts to take tough votes will end up as the real losers.
Conservatives overwhelmingly support protecting a baby in its mother’s womb.
We must hold politicians accountable
RINO politicians need to learn if they continue to sell out conservatives and vote to expand abortion – they won’t be reelected.
Conservatives need to hold the line with life – and ensure the politicians they support and promote are rock-solid when it comes to standing for life.
Unborn babies can’t yet speak for themselves – so it is up to every person who values life to be their voice.
As more states continue to introduce Pro-Life legislation, we can expect for politicians to show their true colors and reveal where they really stand on the issue of life.
