Sometimes life can change you in profound ways.
And many times it is bad news and tragedy that can reshape a person the most drastically.
That’s why singer Ed Sheeran just revealed his wife’s terrifying diagnosis while pregnant and the amazing way they handled it.
British superstar singer Ed Sheeran revealed recently just how rough his 2022 was.
In the span of a month last year Ed Sheeran’s life was changed.
“A series of events changed my life”
Recently, singer Ed Sheeran revealed his wife was diagnosed with a tumor while she was pregnant but chose not to undergo treatment for the tumor until after she gave birth to the baby.
The 32-year-old pop sensation discussed the heart wrenching situation while on social media promoting his new album, Subtract.
Sheeran shared the details of his wife’s medical situation and more recently on Instagram.
“At the start of 2022, a series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I viewed music and art,” Sheeran shared.
The British pop star went on to explain how writing songs is his “therapy” and how his latest album includes some of his “deepest darkest thoughts.”
“Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumor, with no route to treatment until after the birth. My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly, and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter,” Sheeran continued.
Spiraling down through fear, depression, and anxiety
The Grammy award-winning singer and composer said his new album represents “opening the trapdoor” into his soul.
“For the first time, I’m not trying to craft an album people will like, I’m merely putting something out that’s honest and true to where I am in my adult life,” he told his more than 41 million social media followers.
The “Perfect” singer continued, “I was spiraling through fear, depression and anxiety. I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up but not being able to break through for air.”
Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn have two daughters: Lyra who was born in August 2020, and Jupiter who joined the family in May 2022.
The couple is usually notoriously private about their relationship and family life.
But the tumor and subsequent decision to wait on treatment until Jupiter was born have offered Sheeran an opportunity to open up about his family life.
And Sheeran has talked about how fatherhood has changed his perspective on life and music.
“I just found that I really didn’t have purpose outside of [music] because when I was giving myself fixed time of no work, I wasn’t doing anything I enjoyed because I love doing music,” Sheeran said during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“And [being a dad] has actually given me purpose and something in life that’s actually more important than my job,” Sheeran went on.
The decision of Sheeran and his wife to wait on any medical treatment for her tumor until after the birth of their second child is being applauded by Pro-Life activists.
It isn’t every day someone in the entertainment industry celebrates life as openly as Ed Sheeran.
The singer’s new album is due out on May 5.
