Democrats have proven they will do anything to skirt Pro-Life laws and keep the abortion mills running wide open.
Joe Biden’s Department of Defense recently started paying for service members and their families to travel out of state for an abortion.
And now the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is funneling millions of taxpayer dollars into Planned Parenthood.
After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last June, the Biden administration started looking for ways to punish states with Pro-Life laws that ban abortions.
In April, Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) cut off Title X funding to Tennessee because state law does not require doctors to refer patients for abortions to a state where it’s not illegal.
“The state of Tennessee was disqualified from receiving federal Title X funding in April after an audit revealed reproductive healthcare service providers were not in compliance with federal guidelines that stipulate providers must counsel patients on all options available to them in the course of family planning by excluding abortion as an option in the state,” Commercial Appeal reported.
But the funds were not sent back to the federal government or redistributed to taxpayers.
Instead, the $8 million Tennessee was disqualified from receiving in April has been sent directly into the coffers of Planned Parenthood.
Of course, the abortion lobby celebrated the reallocation of funds to Planned Parenthood.
“Our governor jeopardized access to birth control, STI testing and treatment, and cancer screenings when he refused to comply with Title X requirements for unbiased patient information,” President and CEO of PPTNM Ashley Colfield said. “Direct grantees in Virginia and Mississippi will use these funds to ensure there are services in Tennessee and we look forward to working with Virginia League for Planned Parenthood as a subgrantee.”
Governor Lee tried to offer a budget amendment of $7.5 million in recurring funding along with an additional $1.8 million in non-recurring to make up for the lost funds.
“The federal government is denying Tennessee funding that has supported critical maternal and family care for thousands of Tennesseans for decades,” Jade Byers, a spokeswoman for Governor Bill Lee said when HHS announced the decision. “As we discuss next steps with the Attorney General’s office, Governor Lee will fulfill his commitment to serving families by proposing to amend the state budget to include state dollars to fill the void caused by the federal government’s decision.”
But once again the funds are bypassing the state health department and flowing directly to Planned Parenthood.
“Now, instead of Title X funds being awarded to the state health department, the funds will go to Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi by way of another Planned Parenthood affiliate, The Virginia League for Planned Parenthood,” Commercial Appeal reported. “Under the new funding pathway, the Virginia League for Planned Parenthood received $3.9 million for Title X services,” the report continued. “They will be able to pay out those funds directly to PPTNM as a subgrantee.”
Commercial Appeal also reported that “an additional $3.9 million in Title X funds will be granted to Converge Inc., a Mississippi organization that focuses on reproductive healthcare expansion in the South, and they will be able to distribute Title X funds to PPTNM, also as a grantee.”
Governor Lee ripped the move in a post on social media.
“The federal government withheld critical funding from TN families, so they could funnel taxpayer dollars to a radical political organization,” Governor Lee wrote on X. “Some things should simply rise above politics—especially resources that TN mothers, children & families have counted on for decades.”
