Joe Biden abandoned America's pro-life allies around the world in 2021.
President Trump brought the United States back within his first days in office.
Now a former Trump official says America should lead an even bigger fight.
Biden Walked Away From This Pro-Life Coalition In 2021
President Trump's first administration launched the Geneva Consensus Declaration in October 2020.
The declaration states plainly that there is no international right to abortion.
It commits signing nations to defend the family, protect women's health, and preserve every country's right to write its own laws on life.
Brazil, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, and Uganda signed alongside the United States at the start.
Nine days after his inauguration, Joe Biden ordered the United States to withdraw its signature.
His administration restored taxpayer funding to international abortion groups the same week.
ADF International attorney Elyssa Koren called the reversal part of a broader pattern.
The Biden years, she said, were defined by "virulent abortion promotion" aimed at the developing world.
Pro-life nations lost their most powerful member overnight.
Trump Brought The US Back As Secretariat Of The Coalition
Within the first hours of his second term, Trump signed the United States back onto the declaration.
The coalition never stopped growing, even while America sat out.
It has climbed from a handful of founding nations to 41 countries representing roughly two billion people.
Christian nations, Muslim nations, and secular nations all signed on, each for their own reasons.
In August 2026, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the United States would take over as Secretariat of the coalition, replacing Hungary.
America is no longer just a member of this alliance.
It is now the nation setting the agenda.
A Former Trump Official Wants To Build A Stronger Pro-Life Alliance
Valerie Huber helped build the Geneva Consensus Declaration from inside the first Trump administration.
She now runs the Institute for Women's Health, the nonprofit that has coordinated the coalition's growth since 2021.
Huber says the 41 nations have something rare: they agree on paper, and that agreement has survived years of pressure to abandon it.
What they lack is coordination.
"A nation that arrives at a negotiation alone is outmatched," Huber said.
She wants the coalition to move beyond simply existing and start acting like a team.
That means countries showing up to United Nations negotiations with a shared strategy instead of discovering each other's positions in the room.
It means diplomats from Brazil to Uganda arriving prepared, briefed, and speaking with one voice.
Huber's organization has already built a framework for this called Protego, covering health, education, legal policy, and diplomacy.
The diplomacy piece is the newest, and Huber says it is the one that turns a shared belief into a shared strategy.
Right now, a country can hold a firm position at home and still lose ground internationally.
Its ambassador in New York, its delegation in Geneva, and its health ministry back home can all be working from different instructions.
Huber's diplomacy framework is built to close that gap, so a nation speaks with one voice no matter which room it walks into.
That gap is not just bureaucratic sloppiness.
Every point lost in a UN conference room because a delegation wasn't briefed is a policy that never reaches a mother in rural Uganda or a clinic in Indonesia.
Progressive groups pushing abortion internationally do not operate alone.
They show up to UN negotiations funded, coordinated, and disciplined.
For years, pro-life nations showed up to those same rooms one at a time.
Kazakhstan, Sudan, and dozens of other nations joined this coalition without Washington ever pressuring them into it.
Imagine what that coalition could accomplish once it stops meeting the opposition one country at a time.
Forty-one nations acting together carry a weight that forty-one nations acting alone never will.
The United States spent four years on the sidelines of this fight while Joe Biden funded the other side.
It is back in the room now, and this time it is running the meeting.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Marco Rubio now hold the pen on America's global pro-life leadership.
Valerie Huber just handed them the blueprint to use it.
