The battle over abortion is hotter than ever.
And it’s no secret both sides are struggling over how to approach the issue with the American people.
But you’ll be cheering when you hear the major move this church made to help defend preborn babies.
God’s word says in Proverbs 15:1 “a soft word turns away wrath.” So, if you want less wrath and more love, soft words make sense.
It’s amazing how long it takes some people to figure out this basic truth.
Pastor Donald T. Eason has always been pro-life. But by his own admission he used to approach it very differently.
In fact, his entire congregation was pro-life and loud and proud about it.
Just a few years ago, members of the church would be outside of abortion mills with a bull horn, screaming at women not to kill their child.
They still believe that abortion is the murder of an innocent person, but there’s been a shift in their tactics.
“However, the Bible says that knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. So we want to be loving in our approach to help save innocent life. Amen?” Pastor Eason recently stated in one of his sermons.
Pastor Eason had his own personal experience with an unplanned pregnancy. His now wife had gotten pregnant. They were young and confused. They considered abortion.
But God used the experience to change his heart, they got married and he devoted his life to protecting the preborn.
Now, though, Eason approaches it in a kinder and gentler fashion.
The church was convicted about the need to change their tone by Embrace Grace Ministries. They knew they needed to bring love and support to the hurting, not harsh words.
This is a real switch from the times when they were in front of The Women’s Center of West Bloomfield (a well-known abortion clinic) with signs saying “Babies are Murdered Here.”
The Metro Church of Christ, which is located in Sterling Heights, Michigan, is still staunchly pro-life, but they realize now that women in crisis situations need to be loved, not attacked.
“We are all about saving souls and saving babies. We’re out here today not to protest but to minister to these moms and dads here to murder their child. We’re out here to share the Gospel with them in hopes that God will soften their heart and that they will repent and have mercy on their baby today,” an unnamed church Elder stated.
The tactics of protesting abortion have been a point of discussion in the church for decades. Many find that yelling and waving signs is counterproductive and hardens hearts to the message.
“Christians could find more effective means of reducing the abortion rate… Plus, it just makes Christians look hateful. No one who is not a Christian sees that and says, ‘Ah, the good news! What love! I’d like to be more like those people.’ It’s antithetical to the Christian message,” Desarae Andersons told the Christian Chronicle.
Now, Metro Church is the church home of several single moms who came to Christ through the love of the church.
Saving babies starts with caring for vulnerable and scared mothers.
